As more performances move to the online platforms, there is a growing demand for people skilled in the areas of professional streaming, networking, video, sound and lighting. This programme aims to equip the learner with the skills to work effectively with many of the digital AV technologies employed in the professional delivery of online performances.

Computer Basics for Audio Visual Workstations

Learn how to configure the hardware and software used in professional multimedia settings

Live Music and Performance Technology 1

Set up a stage using cutting edge technology and performance software that includes Ableton Live and Apple Mainstage

Live Music & Performance Technology 2  

Incorporate visual and lighting technologies with live and triggered audio for multimedia performances.

Sound Reinforcement 1

Design and implement sound for live events

Sound Reinforcement 2

Mix sound for FOH (Front of House) and IEM (In ear monitors) using the latest digital technologies.

All applicants are required to present for interview, and are expected to demonstrate the following:

  • A proven interest in the field of audio and sound
  • Knowledge of the basic use of computers at approximately ECDL level
  • A positive attitude and enthusiasm for the programme and the audio visual field
  • Commitment to learning, both directed and independent
  • Self-organisation skills.

This programme will be delivered in a blended format. As such, there are technical requirements for the online learning component (computer or tablet, broadband). Further Progression

Learners who complete the programme are awarded a Certificate in A.V. Technologies for the Live Streaming of Performance Events from Pulse College. They also receive a transcript of results detailing their attainment in the constituent modules on the related QQI validated programmes.

The Certificate does not lead to a separate award on the National Framework of Qualifications. However, upon completion of this programme learners may continue their studies in the major award programme, the BA (Hons) in Audio and Music Technologies, an existing validated award on the NFQ, and successful completion of the certificate’s constituent modules entitles learners to exemptions from the related modules in the degree programmes.


This course is funded through an initiative of the Higher Education Authority (HEA).

Programmes are free of charge if you are unemployed, a homemaker returning to work or are in receipt of the Covid-19 unemployment payment at the time the programme begins.

If you are in employment, were previously self-employed or are a recent graduate, you may be eligible provided you meet the nationality/visa requirement and residence requirement. These categories of learner are eligible for 90% funding and will be required to pay 10% (€262) of the standard tuition fee. The standard tuition fee for this course is €2,625

People in receipt of the Covid-19 Pandemic Unemployment Payment (PUP) or Jobseeker’s can apply for this course under the HEA initiative. Fees will be waived for these applicants.
