TAKE THE FIRST STEP ON THE ROAD TO A CAREER IN THE FILM INDUSTRY!

This intensive 10 week course provides an immersive introduction to the exciting world of professional film production. Working with HD cameras and professional editing equipment, you will receive hands-on experience in writing, shooting, directing.

COURSE CONTENT

Study the fundamental aspects of visual storytelling. Learning from practicing industry professionals from disciplines including screenwriting, production, sound, cinematography and post-production.

Week 1 – Introduction to Film & Television
Week 4 – Scriptwriting for drama
Week 7 – Introduction to editing with DaVinci Resolve
Week 10 – Viewing
Week 1 – Introduction to Film & Television

Introduction to film & television landscape in Ireland and crew roles on a production. Begin developing ideas for a one minute piece.

Week 4 – Scriptwriting for drama

Scriptwriting for drama. Viewing of short dramas and discussion. Assignment to develop a 1 minute short (must be shot in Pulse College and have two characters only). Online

Week 7 – Introduction to editing with DaVinci Resolve

Introduction to editing with DaVinci Resolve. Importing media, making selections of footage and basic editing tools.

Week 10 – Viewing

Viewing of two projects, feedback. Discussion of avenues for film making in Ireland, funding, college courses and broadcasters.

Introduction to film equipment. Using different type of cameras and practical exercises.

Introduction to sound. Using audio equipment. Simple exercises. Pulse College

(students deliver their 1 minute proposals online and two will be chosen)

Week 8 – Shoot Two

Shoot two 1 minute pieces with supervisor. Class divided into two crews.

Week 6 – How to film and light an interview
Week 9 – Editing of projects

Making short films – drama and documentary. How to develop ideas and write proposals. How to begin story development for drama. Researching ideas.

Week 6 – How to film and light an interview

How to film and light an interview. Practical examples chosen from student projects to be shot and instruction on how to plan a shot list.

Week 9 – Editing of projects

Editing of projects and instruction on adding music, titles, and colour grading (some of this to be done during the course and the rest to be completed by students outside of the course).

No industry experience is required and applicants may be accepted without formal academic qualifications.
