Associate Lecturer – Part-time

Pulse College’s Department of Games and Animation is inviting applications for an open-ended part-time lecturer role to teach on our BA in Animation (NFQ Level 7) and Certificate in Animation (NFQ Level 6) programmes.

The chosen candidate will be expected to teach 3 hours a week for 12 weeks on-site in Pulse College’s Halston street campus, with additional grading duties to run thereafter. Teaching will commence the week beginning 6 February 2023. There is potential for the position to extend beyond the initial 12-week period.

The ideal candidate:

  • Will hold at least an Honours degree (NFQ Level 8 or equivalent) in a related discipline
  • Will have experience of teaching at third level and/or hold a teaching qualification
  • Will have 2+ years of relevant industry experience
  • Will be a highly self-motivated individual with a proven commitment to furthering their career development
  • Will possess sufficient breadth and depth of knowledge in the subject and of teaching methods to work within the field (specifically, they should have experience of using both Maya and Substance Painter)

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • To ensure the delivery of an effective and coordinated teaching programmes and to work towards achieving the implementation of MIPLOs and MIMLOs for a given programme;
  • To prepare students for, grade, and provide feedback on, assessments;
  • To maintain an accurate, appropriate, and up-to-date record of each student’s attendance and progress and to communicate this information with the campus administrator in a timely fashion, and to otherwise work towards student retention;
  • To compose a Module Handbook;
  • To attend all meeting scheduled by the Programme Director, Campus Office or Academic Director when requested;
  • To keep the Programme Director informed about the progress of the module, and about any difficulties or issues that arise;
  • To communicate regularly with students and regularly check your email/Google Classroom/Moodle account.
  • To engage in continuing professional development activities as appropriate

The successful candidate will be required to introduced learners to the basics of texturing and unwrapping.

Upon successful completion of this module, the learner will be able to:

  1. unwrap a variety of model types including objects, characters, and terrain
  2. create multiple texture maps for models including colour, surface and multi-purpose
  3. identify best practice in implementing alpha maps, bump maps, normal maps, and ambient occlusion maps
  4. texture a scene and character
  5. demonstrate industry-standard mapping and texturing software skills
  6. incorporate suitable lighting to express ambience in scenes.

Associate Lecturer – Part-time

Pulse College’s Department of Games and Animation is inviting applications for an open-ended part-time lecturer role to teach on our BA (Hons) in Creative Technologies and Digital Art (NFQ Level 8) and Certificate in Creative Technologies and Digital Art (NFQ Level 6) programmes.

The chosen candidate will be expected to teach 3 hours a week for 12 weeks on-site in Pulse College’s Halston street campus, with additional grading duties to run thereafter. Teaching will commence the week beginning 6 February 2023. There is potential for the position to extend beyond the initial 12-week period.

Location: Dublin City Centre

Hours: Minimum of 3 teaching hours per week for twelve weeks

Module to be taught: Visual Media: Art, Image and Culture

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Will hold at least a Masters degree in a related discipline (preference may be shown to candidates that possess a PhD or are engaged in doctoral research)
  • Will have experience of teaching at third level and/or hold a teaching qualification
  • Will have 2+ years of relevant industry experience
  • Will be a highly self-motivated individual with a proven commitment to furthering their career development
  • Will possess sufficient breadth and depth of knowledge in the subject and of teaching methods to work within the field (specifically, successful candidates must be familiar with Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Premiere Pro. They should be able to use professional-standard cameras for film and photography.)
  • Will have a proven track record of research outputs and/or be able to demonstrate a portfolio of film/photography work

Upon successful completion of this module, learners will be able to:

  1. make confident and informed decisions regarding composition, exposure and print quality, using digital technology;
  2. identify and define the formal stylistic elements of film / photography;
  3. explain the language and terminology of film / photography, and analyse the ways in which they construct meaning and ideology;
  4. identify significant movements and articulate key concepts in film theory and global film history;
  5. demonstrate knowledge of diverse forms of the moving image, for example, the feature film, experimental, video art, television and digital media;
  6. evaluate the ways in which film / photography is shaped by individuals, movements, institutions and technologies; the relationship between art and cultural values, and the ways in which one may impact the other.
  7. use filming / photographic equipment and technologies to evoke their personal visions.

Associate Lecturer: Part-time

Module to be taught: Game Design and Architecture

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Will hold at least a Masters degree in a related discipline (preference may be shown to candidates that possess a PhD or are engaged in doctoral research)
  • Will have experience of teaching at third level and/or hold a teaching qualification
  • Will have 2+ years of relevant industry experience
  • Will be a highly self-motivated individual with a proven commitment to furthering their career development
  • Will possess sufficient breadth and depth of knowledge in the subject and of teaching methods to work within the field (specifically, successful candidates must be familiar with Unity 3D software and Photoshop.)

  2. deconstruct existing game design and architecture;
  3. take an existing architecture and adapt it to meet various criteria;
  4. create an architecture that meets game design criteria;
  5. design technical documentation with detailed code descriptions.

IT and Tech Support: Part-time

Pulse College’s Department of Games and Animation is inviting applications for an open-ended part-time IT and Tech Support role.

Location: Dublin City Centre

Hours: Three days a week, 10:00–14:30

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Will be familiar with most of the software used in the field of animation and game development (including, but not limited to: Maya, 3DS Max, ZBrush, Toon Boom, Unity, Unreal Engine, Adobe Illustrate, Adobe Photoshop, Mudbox, Nuke, Visual Studio)
  • Will possess previous experience in tech support or a similar position
  • Will possess strong problem-solving and interpersonal skills
  • Will be a highly self-motivated individual
  • Will hold a degree in a related discipline
  • Will be proficient in the use of Windows OS

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Hardware checks and maintenance
  • Installation and configuration of software and hardware
  • Troubleshooting technical issues
  • Diagnosing and repairing faults
  • Resolving WiFi issues
  • Managing the College Tech log
  • Some basic building management duties (e.g. attending the main entrance, moving and removing equipment)
